A major 6.0 earthquake hit northern Italy on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at 02:03:52 UTC, at a depth of 5.1 km (3.2 mi).  This is the fourth major (>5.9) earthquake to hit in less than six days.   

Throughout history, there have never been as many major earthquakes with such frequency on record, as we have seen within the last year and a-half.
